First View of Wyoming
Last summer, I was lucky enough to go to Wyoming. I have to tell you, for someone raised in Central -Western -I -Dunno (New York State is shaped like a confused butterfly) New York, Wyoming is a lot more like a foreign country than Canada is. The land, sky, and horizon are all different. The colors are different. The feel of the air is different. The lack of oxygen is a lot different. It even smells different.
I loved every second of it. Well, the elevation sickness was a bit of a rough ride, but even that was a novel experience.

About the painting process:
Inspired by Oil Painter's Solution Book - Landscapes: Over 100 Answers to Your Oil Painting Questions written by Elizabeth Tolley, I dove into monochromatic studies. I had been plagued by art block for months, deeply unhappy with everything I painted. But this little painting was like an opening door - by stripping away everything except the essentials, a lot of my internal chaos was dissolved.
Painted in a crisp fog blue, it will be varnished before I mail it to you.
